The 2008 Summer Olympics are being held in Beijing, China, a developing country with the annual income less than the people in Sydney, Australia and Athens, Greece, the cities of the 2000 and 2004 Summer Olympics, respectively. China put 2.2 million on the market in early April-May, and within a month, 230,000 people booked that million, 15 months before the 2008 Summer Games begin. The BOCOG also developed special programs to allow Chinese students access to 2008 Beijing Olympic tickets.
Interestingly enough, some sessions (events) won’t require 2008 Beijing Olympic tickets, such as road cycling, walking, and the marathon; these events are open to the public. The BOCOG is working with their ticketing partner and sponsors to apply high technology within the ticketing process. Each 2008 Beijing Olympic ticket will have a digital chip that identifies the purchaser to prevent reselling and identify counterfeits. 2008 Beijing Olympic tickets for the opening ceremony, basketball, and diving have been the top sellers so far.
