Every business tries to increase its sales because more sales means greater profits.  It is a simple logic.  The problem comes in when you do not know exactly how to increase sales.  Learning how is not difficult if you follow these guidelines.  They are the nuts and bolts approach when you want to figure out how to increase sales.

 

Talk To Your Staff

 

Increasing sales begins with using the resources that you have.  You want to get your employees working as hard as they can.  To do this, you need to be an inspiration.  You need to demonstrate the same zeal for your work that you want them to have for theirs. 

 

Meetings can be a great time for a sales pep talk and to make sure everyone is on the same page.  You want goals to line up, and you want to address any problems or concerns that your employees have head on.  Anything that is keeping them from making sales and reaching their full potential is a problem that must be dealt with. 

 

When you want to get your employees to increase sales then go to the source.  Ask your employees what can be done to increase sales.  Because they are the ones in the trenches every day, they may have insights that you do not. 

 

Talk To Your Customers

 

The other source of information is your customer themselves.  Ask them what they do and do not like about the products or services you are selling.  Again, they may see things that you do not. 

 

You may attempt to ask them at any time, but if you want more complete answers you might attempt a questionnaire.  Current customers might enjoy receiving some incentive to fill out a questionnaire that asks all the questions you need answers to.  Just remember to offer these customers a little something extra before you ask them to do a little something extra for you. 

 

To go one step further, ask abut the customer service that they receive when dealing with your employees.  Everything that you learn is another chance to improve the way your business does things. 

                

Provide Inspiration

 

Another way to increase sales is just to make sales more attractive.  This applies to employees and customers.  If you offer incentives to employees for making more sales and to customers for buying more then they will both help you to reach your goals. 

When you go around talking to your customers and employees, end by asking what types of incentives they might like to see in the future.  These may be cash bonuses, product prizes, tickets to special events, or travel incentives for larger goals.  Get a good impression of your employees and your customers and of what drives each group.  When you know what drives them then you can appeal to it. 

 

Knowing how to increase sales is mostly about knowing what people want.  Give employees what they want and they sell more, and give customers what they want and they buy more.
