The Teen Choice Awards is an annual awards show voted on by teens, broadcast on Fox beginning in 1998, and on Global TV in Canada since 1999. The Teen Choice Awards happen in the summertime, usually in August. Honoring athletes, musicians, television and film stars, the Teen Choice Awards are based on popularity.

Voting for the Teen Choice Awards is restricted to teens. Teen Choice Award winners are presented with a unique trophy; a real, life-sized surfboard, specifically designed for that year. From 1998 until 2005, the Teen Choice Awards were presented a few weeks before they were televised. Fans of the Teen Choice Awards got to see the awards show live in 2006. Seventeen Magazine handled the official balloting from 1999 until 2002. Teen People took over the balloting from 2003 to 2006. Currently, Verizon Wireless has the official balloting.
