It is not ironic that the World Cup Soccer has its origins embedded in
It was not until 1930, that World Cup Soccer was developed by FIFA (Fédération Internationale de Football Association). FIFA was led by Jules Rimet, who envisioned bringing the world’s best soccer teams in a tournament competing for the title of World Champions. “Father of World Cup Soccer,” Jules Rimet’s desire was amplified by the publicity and excitement the Olympic Games were receiving around the world. His ultimate ambition for World Cup Soccer was to convert the sport into an international competitive sport that would admit all levels of professional or amateur status. Thus, World Cup Soccer would give FIFA its own world championship.
The first World Cup Soccer tournament in 1930, involved merely 13 countries. Fortunately, since then, World Cup Soccer has dramatically transformed itself into one of the greatest sports in history. The participants in World Cup Soccer have increased to 32 countries and 207 international teams, since 1930. Currently, World Cup Soccer has successfully held sixteen tournaments that are conducted every four years in a different hosting country. This is with the exception of World Cup Soccer being forced into a 12 year hiatus (1938-1950) resulting from the severe effects of World War II. Although there has sixteen World Cup Soccer tournaments, there have only been seven different champions. Currently,
World Cup Soccer has evolved into one of the most prominent and esteemed sporting events in history. The history of World Cup Soccer could not be complete without mentioning every soccer players dream, the World Cup Soccer Trophy. The Jules Rimet Cup became the first World Cup Soccer trophy used from 1930 to 1970. Unfortunately, the Jules Rimet Cup was embezzled twice and finally destroyed, leaving the FIFA World Cup Soccer no choice but to design a new trophy. The FIFA World Cup Soccer Trophy became the new award given at the 10th World Cup Soccer tournament in 1974. As a solution to prior thefts of the trophy, the current World Cup Soccer champion team is given the trophy to hold until the following tournament, then a replica is given as a replacement.
With the help of TV transmission, today World Cup Soccer is able to captivate millions of audiences from all over the world. World Cup Soccer has excelled in popularity through emerging fans, politics and society. Since its preliminary game in 1930, World Cup Soccer has increased its attendees from a low of 300 fans, to an all time high of 199,854.
