Super Bowl VIII took place on January 13, 1974, in Houston, Texas at Rice Stadium. This was the eighth championship game of the National Football League. Super Bowl VIII featured the American Football Conference (AFC) Miami Dolphins against the National Football Conference (NFC) Champion Minnesota Vikings.

In Super Bowl VIII, Miami (15-2) prevailed over Minnesota (14-3), 24-7. Miami scored the first 24 points in Super Bowl VIII, and lead 24-0 going into the fourth quarter. Super Bowl VIII was the second consecutive Super Bowl that Miami had won. With the Super Bowl VIII appearance, Miami was the first NFL or old AFL team to appear in three consecutive Super Bowls. Miami running back Larry Csonka, Super Bowl VIII MVP, ran for 145 yards on 33 carries and scored two touchdowns. Super Bowl VIII was the first time that a running back was named MVP.
