What is the history of the Cannes Film Festival?
The original Festival International du Film was scheduled to begin in 1939, but due to World War II, the launch date was postponed. On September 26, 1946 the Festival de Cannes opened its doors as the first great international cultural event of the post-war era. Sixteen nations were represented at the affair and since then the Cannes Film Festival has become one of the world’s oldest, most influential film festivals.
