Super Bowl VII

Super Bowl VII took place on January 14, 1973, in Los Angeles, California at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum. This was the seventh championship game of the recently formed National Football League. Super Bowl ­­VII had the American Football Conference (AFC) Miami Dolphins against the National Football Conference (NFC) Champion Washington Redskins.

In Super Bowl VII, Miami (17-0) beat Washington (13-4), 14-7. Miami was the first team (and only) to complete an undefeated, perfect season. Super Bowl VII featured the lowest scoring Super Bowl to date. There were only 21 points scored in Super Bowl VII (three touchdowns and no field goals). Miami’s “No Name Defense” (a nickname given to the team by Tom Landry in Super Bowl VI) dominated Super Bowl VII; Washington only crossed midfield once in the first half, and four times over all. Miami safety Jake Scott was named Super Bowl VII MVP. Scott returned two interceptions for 63 yards, and became the second defensive player to earn a Super Bowl MVP. Super Bowl VII was the first to be televised live in the city in which it was being played.
