Super Bowl XV

Super Bowl XV took place on January 25, 1981, in New Orleans, Louisiana at the Louisiana Superdome. This was the fifteenth championship game of the National Football League. Super Bowl XV had the American Football Conference (AFC) Oakland Raiders versus the National Football Conference (NFC) Champion Philadelphia Eagles.

Oakland (15-5) defeated Philadelphia (14-5) in Super Bowl XV, 27-10. With the Super Bowl XV win, the Raiders became the wild card playoff team to win a Super Bowl. Oakland jumped out to a 14-0 lead in Super Bowl XV, and Philadelphia never recovered. Oakland quarterback Jim Plunkett was named Super Bowl XV MVP, on 13 of 21 passing for 261 yards and three touchdowns, and nine rushing yards. Super Bowl XV’s MVP winner Plunkett was the second Heisman Trophy winner to be named Super Bowl MVP, after Roger Staubach in Super Bowl VI.
