Super Bowl XXXI

Super Bowl XXXI took place on January 26, 1997, in New Orleans, Louisiana at the Louisiana Superdome. This was the thirty-first championship game of the National Football League. Super Bowl XXXI had the National Football Conference (NFC) Champion Green Bay Packers against the American Football Conference (AFC) New England Patriots.

 

In Super Bowl XXXI, Green Bay (16-3) defeated New England (13-6), 35-21. Super Bowl XXXI was Green Bay’s third Super Bowl victory, the first since Super Bowl II. Kick/punt returner Desmond Howard, was named Super Bowl XXXI MVP, and was the first special teams player to earn that honor. Howard ran for 154 kickoff return yards in Super Bowl XXXI, and scored the game winning touchdown on a Super Bowl record 99 yard kickoff return.
