The gold trophy that is awarded to the winner of the FIFA World Cup is called the World Cup Soccer trophy. Since in the inception of the World Cup Soccer in 1930, two trophies have represented triumph in the World Cup: the Jules Rimet World Cup Soccer Trophy from 1930 to 1970 and the FIFA World Cup Soccer Trophy from 1974 to the present day.

The Jules Rimet World Cup Soccer trophy, which was also known as Coupe de Monde, was designed by Abel Lafleur, and was made of gold plated sterling silver, and lapis lazuli. This World Cup Soccer trophy was 14 inches high and weighed 8.4 pounds. The Jules Rimet World Cup Soccer trophy depicted Nike, the Greek goddess of victory, and was stolen twice. First time occurred at the World Cup 1966 in England, during a public exhibition at the Westminster Central Hall. The Jules Rimet World Cup Soccer trophy was recovered one week later, wrapped in newspaper at the bottom of a suburban garden hedge in South Norwood, South London, by a dog named Pickles. The second time the Jules Rimet World Cup Soccer trophy was stolen was in 1983, and never recovered.

The FIFA World Cup Soccer trophy is made of 18 carat gold with a malachite base. The Italian designer Silvio Gazzaniga, created the FIFA World Cup Soccer trophy to be two human figures who are holding up the Earth. This World Cup Soccer trophy is 14.1 inches tall, and weighs 13.6 pounds. There is an engravement at the base of the trophy that says “FIFA World Cup”, and has the names of the countries whose national teams win the World Cup each year on the bottom side of the trophy. The year and name of the winning country are in English.

The nation that wins the FIFA World Cup Soccer trophy is not awarded the trophy permanently. FIFA World Cup Soccer trophy winners retain the trophy until the next World Cup tournament, and are given a gold-plated replica instead of the original. The FIFA World Cup Soccer trophy will not be retired until the name plaque has been filled entirely with the names of winning nations until 2038.
